Hi, I’m Anna — welcome to Hearth and Feather.
This is a blog for anyone who’s ever stood at the kitchen window watching a bird at the feeder and thought, “wait, what bird is that?”
I’m not an ornithologist. I’m not a lifelong birder with a 400-species life list. I started feeding backyard birds the same way most people do — with a $20 feeder and a bag of seed from the hardware store — and fell down the rabbit hole from there. A lot of the articles you’ll find here are the ones I wish someone had written for me when I was starting out: honest, clear, and free of the fluff and filler that dominates most of the birding content online.
What this site is about:
- Practical guides for attracting, identifying, and enjoying backyard birds
- Honest reviews of bird feeders, binoculars, and birding gear
- No AI-generated filler, no sponsored content dressed up as recommendations, no 2,000-word articles that could have been 400
What it’s not about:
- Rare species chasing, expert-level field identification, or birding competitively
- Hype, “best ever” lists that include 15 products nobody should buy, or fake urgency
If you want to get in touch, reach me through the Contact page. I read everything, though I can’t always reply quickly.
One note on affiliate links: some of the product recommendations on this site are Amazon affiliate links, meaning I may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you if you buy through them. I only recommend things I’d use or buy myself. More detail on the Affiliate Disclosure page.
Thanks for being here.
